Canterbury Environmental Explorer
v3
A public health-focused environmental intelligence platform for exploring Canterbury's groundwater, rivers, lakes, ecology, land use, and waterborne disease risk. Loads from the knowledge base file — all content updates automatically when a new knowledge file is generated.
- Interactive map with eleven toggleable layers: LAWA groundwater and surface water sites, ECan wells, river WQ and ecology, lakes, rainfall gauges, river flow sites, drinking water supplies, wastewater discharge consents, and NIWA climate stations
- Wells and LAWA groundwater sites colour-coded by nitrate average, E. coli peak concentration (ec_max), well depth, or WQ sample count — with a live legend that updates with the selection
- Surface water, river WQ, river ecology, and lake popups link directly to ECan water quality site cards using CouncilSiteID deep-links, and display the readable SiteID site name
- Five chart sets covering groundwater quality, rivers and surface water, ecology and lakes, land use and agricultural pressure, and NIWA climate stations
- Health Context tab: nine-district Canterbury choropleth map switchable across campylobacteriosis, cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis, average nitrate, and other metrics — with a plain-language interpretation panel and six Canterbury-specific public health intervention opportunity cards
- Discharge Risk tab summarises active wastewater discharge consent data by type, CWMS zone, and catchment
